The Highborne are an ancient race and faction of the night elves and were in the highest class of Kaldorei civilization. Very few remain today, a majority are in the Alliance though.
History[]
The Highborne are the upper class of night elf society, originally an unnamed caste of very intellectual and wise elves. Their apparel and attitude separates them from the night elves. Queen Azshara, a naga and former priestess made their name official. They restricted the Well of Eternity to themselves for a while. The constant magic using caused the night elves and highborne to split from each other. They were in the ranks of the Moon Guard.
War of the Ancients[]
Overtime their reckless magic power corrupted them even more. Their magic attracted the Burning legion into Azeroth. They then agreed to let the Burning Legion enter Azeroth. These elves caused the War of the Ancients. Malfurion Stormrage finally temporarily defeated the Legion.
After the Storm[]
Yet many Highborne did not die at the bottom of the ocean. Many Highbonre betrayed Azshara at the last minute, realizing the horrors brought into the world. The surviving highborne helped the night elves rebuild the Mount Hyjal region. They conjured a storm in Ashenvale which then got the highborne race exiled from the land.
High elves of Quel'Thalas[]
The exiled Highborne now known as high elves took their punishment not so serious. Lead by Dath'Remar Sunstrider set sail across the sea to find a new land to call their own. They later reached Lordaeron and established the kingdom of Quel'Thalas and the source of their magic strength and power known as the Sunwell. A group later went with Kael'Thas Sunstrider to the Outland naming these elves the blood elves. After the Scourge invaded the remaining elves rebuilt Silvermoon City.
Today[]
Today many Highborne still exist in their original elven forms. One group known as the Shen'dralar live in secrecy within Eldre'Thalas, known as Dire Maul to adventurers. Many Highborne live elsewhere in the world are barely holding on to life. Most Highborne have become high elves, blood elves, naga and satyr. More recently the Highborne have gone out of hiding and have sent their ranks to the Kirin Tor floating city of Dalaran and Tyrande Whisperwind to rejoin night elf society and train young night elves how to be mages. Several spirits of Highborne linger throughout the world of Azeroth, mostly inhabiting night elven ruins. Even dwarves have discovered sign of highborne artifacts in the sunken land of Suramar.
