Giants are a race of gargantuan and towering humanoids from Tamriel. They are a rather peaceful race, unless they or their mammoth livestock are provoked.

Background[]

Homeland[]

The giants are commonly seen in the hills of High Rock and less commonly in the hills of Skyrim. They can be seen in camps of usually two giants and two to four mammoths.

Technology[]

Giant technology is basic and simple. They arm themselves with either a stone, bone, or wooden club. They wear animal pelts and animal bones, some bones belonging to their natural enemies, the trolls of Skyrim.

Most giants live off meat and use basic technology for this, such as roasting or skinning. They herd mammoths like livestock for milk, fur, and cheese. Rarely, one can find a dead domestic horse roasting over a fire in giant camps, revealing they eat horse meat.

Culture[]

The culture of giants is relatively unknown, however it is known that some giants paint of cave walls and stones and carve symbols into the tusks of their mammoths; this resembles their decorative scarification.

Behavior[]

It is known that giants raise mammoths as livestock. If one attacks the giant's livestock, the giant will immediately turn hostile and attack. They are wary of other races but have grown accustomed to it. A majority of giants remain neutral and only attack if someone wanders into their camps. Lone giants are much more passive and, if approached, have a low chance of hostility. Sometimes they even ignore a person if face to face, the cause of this is unclear.

Interactions with races[]

Giants are occasionally offered cattle by farmers as a sacrifice. The farmers do this to try and convince the giant not to attack his or her farmland. The cattle offered have a paint marking on it, traditionally for giants to notice it. These are peace offerings - which giants always ignore, leading to them slaying the farmer.

Trivia[]

  • Mammoths who belong to giants have carvings on their tusks that match the symbols on rocks and walls of giant encampments. Wild mammoths (whom are often wandering alone anyway) do not have these details.
  • Giants have pointed ears like elves, raising suspicions that they may descend from or share a common ancestor of Merkind.
  • The difference between female and male giants is indiscernible. All giants found in Skyrim have apparent beards and no visible mammary glands.
  • Giants are notorious for their killing animation - when they slam their club on the ground or on top of an unlucky character, the character will suffer an instant death and be shot straight into the air at a very high speed.
