Taunka (AKA Winter tauren) are an ancient subrace of tauren residing in the cold continent of Northrend on Azeroth.
Background[]
Like their relatives, the tauren the taunka serve under Garrosh Hellscream and the Horde. Much like their relatives, the taunka are involved in the spirits of the land, though after residing in the harsh climate of Northrend they have bullied the spirits in keeping their region inhabitable.
Over time, the taunka, whom many believe to be ancestral cousins of the tauren have adapted, but only by forcing the land and the elements to yield to their will. The taunka's relationship with nature, unlike that of their tauren brethren, has been one of constant struggle and grim perseverance.
Although taunka may first come across as dour or cold to outsiders, those who visit them will realize that they are an embattled race of survivors characterized by unshakeable resolve and hearts described as colossal.
Taunka are clan-bound and paired in culture.
Speculation has lead to the possibility of the Icemist tauren meaning the same thing as the taunka. This could mean that the icemist tauren are the taunka or have become the taunka. All this specualtion can be backed up by the taunka race's former capital of Icemist Village.
